Light found to be a 'risk' to premature babies

In yet another study on the effects of artificial lighting, it was determined that exposure to the constant light found in many neonatal units can prevent the newborn's biological clock from properly developing. The study, done by Vanderbilt University, is yet another indicator of just how powerful an influence artificial lighting can be. The researchers suggested that babies should be subjected to cyclic lighting that mimics the day/night cycle (duh!). Earlier studies had shown that babies cared for in units that followed day/night cycles slept through the night sooner and gained weight faster. Checkout this BBC article for more details.

Welcome to Lighting Facts

The more you know about outdoor lighting, the better off we'll all be. More waste is associated with outdoor lighting than anything else in our society. More money is spent, more energy is consumed and more pollution is generated in the foolish hope that we can prevent it from getting dark at night. Face it folks... night is every bit as important as day.
